Toxic substances in children's products: the EU must act quickly, but how can we help today?

According to the latest report from the European Environment Agency (EEA), children's products in the EU are exposed to a significant risk of contamination with toxic chemicals. These hazardous substances include, for example, lead, phthalates, and perfluorinated compounds, which are associated with health issues such as reproductive disorders, hormonal imbalances, and developmental problems in children. It is alarming that these substances can be present in commonly available children's products, such as toys, clothing, and childcare equipment.

EEB emphasizes in its report that the current EU legislation on protecting children from toxic substances is insufficient. Legal regulations often respond belatedly to new information about the hazards of chemicals, allowing dangerous substances to remain in circulation for a long time. The organization therefore calls on the European Commission and member states to take immediate action and strengthen regulations concerning toxic substances, especially in products intended for children.

How does WASHIK solve this problem?

In response to the concerning presence of toxic substances in household products, a number of initiatives have emerged focusing on promoting safe and non-toxic alternatives. One of them is a Czech brandWASHIKwhich you can find on the pagesshop.endala.cz This brand specializes in household products designed to protect family health and minimize exposure to toxic substances.

WASHIK currently offers eco-friendly dishwasher and laundry products that contain no harmful substances. A new addition is also shower filter , which removes chlorine and other harmful substances from the water, thereby contributing to the protection of the skin and the health of the whole family. This filter is especially suitable for children and people with sensitive skin. WASHIK thus allows parents to choose safe and healthy alternatives in everyday life. The brand also plans to expand its range with more non-toxic household products that will continue its mission of a safe and healthy home.

What can we do?

  1. Track certifications – Search for products with certifications that guarantee the safety of materials, such as products from the WASHIK brand.

  2. Inform – Read labels and search for information about potentially hazardous substances.

  3. Support changes – Join initiatives and campaigns supporting stricter regulations on toxic chemicals.

Thanks to brands like WASHIK and the growing consumer awareness of the importance of a non-toxic environment, we can together contribute to creating a safer world for our children. The European Union must act quickly and effectively, but we ourselves can also take a step towards a non-toxic home right now.
